Gombey Getup!

Welcome to the Isle of Devils where our Summer traditions are the highlight of the year. From Carnival to Cup Match, we have a little something for everyone to enjoy.

I am the designer behind TABS – The Authentic Bermuda Shorts and my summer collection draws inspiration from Bermuda’s Gombey dancers. Their stunning costumes are decorated with mirrors, tassels, and other small items; each one unique to its owner.

The vibrant hues of hibiscus flower and the local chromis fish, are just two of our new colours of Bermuda shorts for 2017. I’m also excited about our Gombey swim short which is a digital image of the dancers printed on a quick dry swim short.  Pair with one of our new polo shirts and you are island ready!

We’re not the only ones who love the Gombeys. Sophia Fortuna has done a range of swimsuits available at A2Z Fashions and I love local artist April Branco’s pastel studies of Gomebys; she really captures their energy and colours. Local jeweller, Rebecca Little, has also expanded her line of jewellery for TABS to include the vibrant colours of the Gombeys. From tassel necklaces to pom pom earings this eclectic mix is sure to make you feel up beat!

If you’re looking to take part in this Bermudian tradition, join in with the Gombey troupes at Harbour Night.  Get caught up in the infectious drumbeat and sharp blasts of the leader’s whistle then refuel with a glass of Bermuda’s own Rum Swizzle… just don't forget to wear your Bermuda shorts.
